Wada House (National important cultural property)
It is the largest gassho-zukuri style house in Shirakawago. In the Edo period, Wada family served as a head of village and gaurd official. Trading silk product and gunpowder ingredient which was an important source of income in Shirakawa-go at that time.
The 1st and 2nd floors of the house are open to the public.

The Wada family's history and Gassho-zukuri architecture are explained in Japanese on the first floor and in English on the second floor. The museum is also open to the public. The silkworms are scheduled to be bred in July and August. A corner is set up where you can listen to explanations by the curator using a QR code. (Revised 1 April 2024) |
