Event

For daytime sightseeing without participating in the light-up event, please see [Daytime Sightseeing on Event Days (Daytime Sightseeing)] at the bottom of the screen.

The Shirakawa-go Light-up Event is an event that is held by advance reservation only.
You will not be able to participate even if you arrive on the day of the event. Tickets will not be sold on the day of the event.
As in the previous event, an “admission ticket system” will be used to prevent violations of the rules. An entrance gate will be set up at the entrance to the village to check participants.
Please wear the ticket holder around your neck at all times while entering the gate and walking around the village.
Please note that those who do not have an admission ticket will not be allowed to enter and will be asked to leave without it.
Please note that some visitors may or may not be able to tour the observation deck depending on the method of reservation.

*For more details, please see “Outline of the 39th (2025) Shirakawa-go Light-up Event” below.

On the day of the light-up event, restrictions are placed on daytime sightseeing in order to separate event participants from non-event participants. Please check the following points.

Parking lot usage

No reservations are required for daytime tours.
The parking lot opens at 8:00 a.m., and the last entry is at 3:00 p.m. (staff will guide visitors), with complete exit at 5:00 p.m.
The last entry for sightseeing vehicles (including buses) will be at 15:00.
The estimated time required for the World Heritage village tour is approximately 2 to 3 hours. It is strongly recommended to use the parking lot by 12:00 p.m. to allow enough time for sightseeing.

About the observatory

Cars are not allowed on the Ogimachi Castle Ruins Observation Deck, which is operated by the village. Please use the observatory shuttle bus or walk to the observatory.
Due to preparations for the illumination event, the Ogimachi Castle Ruins Observatory will be closed at 16:10, with the walking route ending at 15:45. Please allow plenty of time for sightseeing.
Shuttle buses to the observatory will be in regular operation (9:00-15:40 up, 9:10-16:10 down). Shuttle buses will not operate in the 12:00s.
If on foot, it takes about 15 to 20 minutes to reach the observatory from the walking trail behind the Wada House.
